Pear Shaped Link
The pear shaped link is another common mooring component. It is an important linking part in mooring chains, especially in off shore drilling platforms. This anchor chain accessory carries out functions similar to the kenter shackle, but saves more material during the manufacturing process. It is used to join the swivel end of the chain cable to the anchor shackle. Because of the smooth profile, it can be used in place of kenter shackles, as the closing system is ideal for larger chain diameters.
Rough estimates demonstrate that producing a pear shaped link will save more than 14.8% of raw materials in comparison to the more common kenter shackle. In addition, the pear shaped link has a 46% increase in the proof test load and a 27% increase of the breaking test load. Other advantages include a greater safety level, easy mounting and dismounting, and a longer service life. As a marine fitting, this pear shackle has become increasingly popular among customers.
