I. Application
The HGY5313TFC synchronous chip sealer is used for chip sealing the surfaces of roads and coating and waterproofing bridges. Asphalt binder spraying and aggregate spreading are performed synchronously so they achieve maximum cohesion.

Our road sealer is researched and developed independently, earning proprietary intellectual property rights for its advanced technology. Improving on the design of the HGY5310TLS synchronous chip sealer, we installed a strong agitator in the asphalt tank to prevent the asphalt rubber from separating into liquids and solids. The pavement chip sealer incorporates mechanical, electric and hydraulic systems in one machine, simplifying the operating process.

III. Components and Structures of the Synchronous Chip Sealer
The road maintenance equipment consists of 8 systems: a tractor, asphalt spray system, aggregate spreading system, air circuit system, water circuit system, control system, speed measuring system and power supply system.

Tractor
The Sinotruk Howo tractor, model ZZ3317N4667D1 (a National Emissions Standard Stage Four vehicle), features strong power (max power is 276kw), a heavy load capacity, low fuel consumption, easy operation and a reliable braking system.

Asphalt Spray System
The asphalt spray system for our synchronous chip sealer includes a heating subsystem and asphalt spray subsystem.

Heating Subsystem

  • 1. Coil: Double layers of coils at the bottom of the tank circulate heating oil from the entrance of the furnace to the exit to heat asphalt in the tank and pipeline.
  • 2. Heat Oil Pump: Pumps heating oil in and out for fluid major and minor circulation via a Belgium Johnson’s gear oil pump.
  • 3.Heat Oil Filter: Filters out foreign matter in the pipeline to protect the pump.

4.Burner: Directly heats the interlayer between the fire tube and asphalt tank. Nozzles and asphalt pipelines are heated and insulated by a heat oil circuit that keeps asphalt moving smoothly from the pipes to the tank. The imported burner has a short preheating time and high heating efficiency, maintaining a proper temperature for spraying.

5.Mixing device: A vertical mixing device in the tank shortens the time the synchronous chip sealer takes to heat up the asphalt and prevents the asphalt mixture from separating.

Asphalt Spray Subsystem
The asphalt spray subsystem consists of an asphalt tank, asphalt pipeline, asphalt pump, asphalt valve bank, asphalt filter, spray unit, and lifting and swinging device for the spray bar.

  • 1. Asphalt Tank: Holds heated asphalt in tank with an asbestos insulation layer that is 100mm thick, keeping the heated asphalt warm. Our synchronous chip sealer is designed with a frosted stainless steel board to ensure easy cleaning. Heating oil is transferred to keep asphalt warm. A wave cutting plate in the tank absorbs the impact of the asphalt against the tank when the vehicle is moving.

2.Asphalt Pipeline: Delivers asphalt to the spray bar and begins major and minor cycles: asphalt tank – pipeline – asphalt pump – pipeline – asphalt tank. A heating oil pipe alongside the asphalt pipes reduces thermal loss in transport.

  • 3.Asphalt Pump: A Belgium Johnson gear pump with an idler wheel and main rotor work together to pump asphalt in and out through major and minor cycles.

4.Asphalt Valve Bank: Controls circulation of the asphalt via a valve block and cylinder. Patent No. 200520078497.

5.Asphalt Filter: Filters out foreign matter in the asphalt to protect the asphalt pump and prevent blocked nozzles.

  • 6.Spray Unit: Piston turns nozzles on and off via a straight reciprocating motion. Each nozzle is controlled by a cylinder. The pipe’s special design ensures uniform pressure and a good spraying performance.

7.Lifting Unit of Spray Bar: Our synchronous chip sealer is designed with two hydraulic lifting cylinders to regulate the position of the spray bar, thus for a better performance.

Chip Spreading System
The chip spreading system consists of an aggregate hopper, feed gate controller and spreader. Two stilling cones installed in the hopper guarantee that aggregate is driven to the double spiral distributor via the feed belt. The feed gate uses a 20-way control system and the roller has a special anti-skid design which prevents aggregate from skidding on the roller after dropping. The double spiral distributor delivers aggregate to a lower hopper that is 3,800mm wide. Gravity and friction against the roller pull the aggregate down for even spreading. This technology is patented at Patent No. ZL200520078495.6. This synchronous chip sealer uses aggregate that is between 3 to 25mm in size.

Air Circuit System
The air circuit system consists of an air source from the chassis, distribution gas bag, control valve, air conduct, joint, solenoid valve and cylinder. An air source from the chassis allows the aggregate spreading system, asphalt spray system, asphalt valve bank and water circuit system to work well.

Water Circuit System
This system includes a water tank, filter, solenoid valve, water pipeline, water sprinkler rack and nozzle. Nozzles on each tire spray water to prevent wet asphalt from sticking to the tires during operation and keeps the synchronous chip sealer from skidding or overheating in tough working conditions. A nozzle installed on the belt conveyor’s roller sprays small amounts of water on the roller to keep the belt from slipping.

PLC Control System
1. PLC accurately calculates spraying data according to various work requirements and sets parameters for real-time conditions.
2. The PLC automatically modifies and calibrates parameters according to asphalt density and truck load to accurately regulate the asphalt pump displacement and limit the error rate of the spray amount to within 1.5%.
3. Encoder monitors the speed of the synchronous chip sealer and asphalt pump speed for precise spraying.
4. Easy to switch between manual and automatic modes.
5. Adjustable amount of asphalt spraying and aggregate spreading depending on pavement width. Aggregate level limits transducer ensures the right amount of aggregate is being released.
6. Adjustable clearance of spray bar from the ground. Roller spreader controls spreading with a 2% error rate.
7. Automatic alert when aggregate reaches minimum and maximum limits and adjusts asphalt amount.
8. Operating panel in the cabin of the truck.

Speed Measuring System
The speed measuring system for our synchronous chip sealer includes electric power, velocity radar, radar mounting, signal conversion devices and signal output devices. The electricity system uses a 12V DC inverse power supply, avoiding potential safety hazards caused by heavy outdoor currents. The radar, made in America, features high accuracy, wide range of speed measuring, flexible operation and adaptability. The whole waterproof system is capable of resisting interferences and shock, making it possible to work full-time in any weather.

Power Supply System
The Yuchai 70kW auxiliary engine has the advantages of strong power and reliable performance. The auxiliary engine supplies power to the hydraulic and electrical systems to keep the synchronous chip sealer performing stably.

IV. Advantages
1. Automatic controls means there is no need to lift the hopper to spread aggregate, allowing the chip sealing equipment to be used in narrow spaces such as under bridges and at curves.
