Application Area:
In metal fittings, a lap joint is used to connect two pieces of material by overlapping them. The lap may be divided into a full lap or a half lap. Full laps have no material removed from each piece of material, so that the resulting joint is the result of the combined thickness. They are widely used as temporary framing and timber frame construction. In half laps, material is removed from both pieces, resulting in a joint whose thickness is that of the thickest piece. Half laps are extensively used as frame assembly in cabinet making.
