Mud Pump

Mud pump is a kind of specialized machinery used for draining mud. Duringthe process of drilling, the mud pump works to transfer washing fluids such asmud or water to the drilling hole. Hence, it is an important part of drillingequipment.

A mud pump, as a reciprocating piston/plunger device, is designed tocirculate drilling fluid under high pressure down the drill stringand back up the annulus. The pump comes in a variety of sizes andconfigurations, while the typical petroleum drilling rig generally uses the triplex(three piston/plunger) design.

Classification

By type: the commonly used type is piston type orplunger type mud pump.

By cylinder: According to the number of cylinders,there are single-cylinder type, double-cylinder type, and 3-cylinder type mudpump.

By mode of action: In terms of action, there aresingle-acting and double-acting types. The single-acting mud pump conductspumping and draining once within a cycle of reciprocating motion of the piston, andthe double-acting type, does pumping and draining twice in a cycle.

Features

1.     Mud pump is suitable for grout with high thicknessand high viscosity(＜10000PaS) or that containsparticles.

2.     The pump provides stable liquid flow, withoutoverflowing, pulsation, or stirring and shearing of the slurry.

3.     The discharge pressure is unrelated to rotationspeed. The pump may maintain high discharge pressure even there is low liquidflow.

4.     The flow is directly proportional to the rotationspeed, and can be regulated by gear shifting mechanism and variable speedmotor.

5.      With high suction capacity, the mudpump can be directly used for pumping liquid without the use of bottom valve.

6.      The mud pump is reversible, and thusflow direction can be adjusted by changing the direction of pump. Hence, thepump is suitable for pipes which need washing in two opposite directions.

7.      Stable operation with low vibrationnoise.

8.      Simple structure, easy assembly andmaintenance.
