Another use of our hydraulic cylinder is in the parabolic reflector for collecting solar energy. This type of cylinder often has trunnions at both ends or near the center of mass.
The above picture shows two trunnions arranged forward the center of mass of the cylinder. On the top of the piston rod is a ball joint, which is used to connect the cylinder to the object that it is pushing or pulling. These mounting attachments also allow the solar reflector to be rotated as it tracks the sun across the sky each day. Hence, the sunlight that enters the reflector is always parallel to its plane of symmetry. A maximum energy concentration ratio can be achieved.
