In a hydrocyclone, slurry (a mixture of solid particles and liquid) is pumped tangentially into the cyclone chamber. This generates a rotating flow and centrifugal force, driving larger or heavier particles toward the cyclone wall, while smaller or lighter particles remain near the center and move upward to exit through the overflow outlet. Heavier particles migrate downward and are discharged through the bottom underflow outlet.
